Comber Farmers’ Market Celebrates 1st Birthday!
Comber Farmers’ Market celebrates its first birthday on Thursday 2 July 2015 in St Mary’s Parish Church car park, the Square, Comber 9.00am – 1.30pm. The artisan food market which has 26 regular traders was started a year ago by Comber Regeneration Community Partnership to regenerate the town, boost the local economy, and provide a meeting place for local people.
Deborah Girvan, Ards and North Down Alliance Councillor, who was instrumental in starting the market said, “It is hard to believe that we have been running the market successfully for a year. It has been a lot of hard work for the volunteers who run the market but it has been well worth the effort. We are delighted that Michele Shirlow, Chief Executive of NI Good Food, has accepted our invitation to come along and blow out the candle on our birthday cake. Michele was very supportive in the early days of developing the market and gave us lots of good tips and advice. With funding received from Ards and North Down Council we have been able to put on an extended programme to celebrate our first birthday.”

Cavanagh Eggs: We are delighted to welcome Cavanagh Eggs all the way from Lisnaskea in County Fermanagh. The family run business produces award winning eggs from free roaming happy hens.
Comber Earlies Arrive Late: Be the first to buy the infamous Comber Earlies! These nutty, earthy potatoes are just coming into season as the crop was delayed because of the frost at the end of April and the cool temperatures throughout May and June.
Comber Potato Festival: This event begins with the Comber Farmers’ Market on 2 July. Celebrity BBC chef Paula McIntyre is giving a cookery demonstration on Thursday 2 July at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church Hall. Tickets are £5 and are available from Ards and Bangor Visitor Information Centres. There is also a Tractor Run and BBQ on Thursday 2 July which starts at 7.00pm at Parkway to parade around the town. The main festival day on Saturday 4 July, 10.00am – 5.00pm, is when the Square, which will be closed to traffic, comes alive with more food and drink stalls. There are loads of activities for children including potato workshops, petting farm animals, a potato science show, falconry, and music by the Sheugh, Tennessee Hennessees and Wookalily. On Sunday 5 July there will be a Thanksgiving Service at 3.30pm in the Square with musical accompaniment by Comber SIlver Band.
