The Poacher’s Pocket, situated in the heart of picturesque County Down, is a multi award- winning gastro-pub that oozes modern country charm. The restaurant is very much in keeping with the style of establishment developed by Balloo Inns – a dining pub with a firm emphasis on good honest food and local suppliers.

There are classic pasta dishes and woodfired pizza as well as gastro-pub classics like confit duck rillette, celeriac slaw and toast as well as local fish which might be local roast fillet of cod with Portavogie prawn linguini, lemon and parsley or chargrilled steaks from Hannan meats on the grill. Dessert might be apple and rhubarb tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream and rhubarb jam. Dishes will change with the seasons and the availability of fresh, local produce but you get the idea. The children’s menu includes dishes from the adult one, so you just know they’ll eat as well as you.
