Tempted Cider wins Dublin Craft Cider Cup…and there are medals too for Mac Ivor’s Cider
Lisburn-based Tempted Irish Cider has won the overall Dublin Cider Cup for its strawberry cider.
The small company, founded and managed by David Uprichard, also won a gold medal for the strawberry cider and a bronze for its dry cider at the high profile event, Ireland’s most prestigious competition for craft beers and ciders. Tempted in a Food NI member company.
And there were gold and silver medals for Mac Ivor’s Cider from Portadown, another Food NI member. Mac Ivors won gold for its plum and ginger and silver for traditional dry. Both are Food NI members.
Mr Uprichard formed the business in 2009 with wife Janet as DJ’s Juices and Cider. Tempted subsequently became the main cider brand. The company also produces apple juices.
Mr Uprichard, commenting on the overall Dublin Craft Cider Cup, says: “We are thrilled to have won the overall award in such an important competition. We’ll have to expand our trophy cabinet because of the continuing successes of our range of ciders in this competition and other awards such as UK Great Taste, Blas na hEireann and the World Cider Awards.
The winners of the 2019 Dublin Craft Beer & Cider Cup were announced at the recent Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair in Dublin.
First launched in 2013, the Dublin Craft Beer and Cider Cup competitions provide an opportunity to build brand recognition within the industry for smaller craft brewers, allowing them to showcase their brews and have them rated, tasted and analysed by an expert panel of judges.
Speaking about this year’s contest, Head Judge, Gearoid Cahill, said: “This year we have seen a very high standard of entries for the Alltech Craft Dublin Cup. The judges were impressed with the wide variety of beer styles, with craft brewers skilfully taking on new and bold recipes with success. Huge congratulations to all of our medal winners.”
